Vets and Merchant Mariner Program

The IAMPE will be holding a free seminar program designed to introduce Armed Forces Veterans and Merchant Mariners to the Port Industry.  Port and terminal entities are looking for resourceful persons with leadership skills and a strong work ethic who are willing to take on the demands of public port management and terminal operations.  Our veterans and merchant mariners have these attributes.  Those who have served in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Air Force are used to challenging situations and have in many cases managed logistics, the core of our port industry.  Merchant mariners who are looking to come ashore have vessel experience and have managed complex cargo operations.  This program is designed to introduce these men and women to an industry in need of skilled and dependable personnel.   The industry offers excellent compensation and benefit plans. We are pleased to announce that sponsorships have reached a point where Vets and Merchant Mariners can attend the program free.

The program will be held in one day and will cover topics such as the worldwide transportation system, the port industry, public port and private terminal management, and industry opportunities.

Seminar space is limited.  There is no cost to vets and merchant mariners.  Applicants without current employment will be given first preference for participation.

The program will be held at the International Marine Terminal in Portland, Maine- Tuesday October 27th from 0830 to 1700.

Our sponsors to date: The Maine Port Authority, Soli DG Ports, Marpro Associates Intl, HDR, the International Longshoremen’s Association (Local 861), the Satellite Logistics Group, Birney-Frederick-Quinlan-Tupper LLC, Lindsay Gidney, Port Tampa Bay and Maher Terminals.

A 5 day port and terminal management seminar program is also offered for veterans and merchant mariners offering a full range of subject areas for persons wishing to enter the port industry.

Applications for both programs are available from the IAMPE at jgleason@solidginc.com or by calling 207 239-2726.
